Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.

Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.

The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.

Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.

Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the main straight.

The veteran wrapped up in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.

Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's best.

The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
